Monardella macrantha ‘Marian Sampson’

November 2015

This adorable hummingbird trumpet mint is a little garden treasure. A selection in the Plant Select catalog, I cannot help but wonder how it made the cut. Too pretty to resist no doubt. The authors advise protection from sun, heat and cold! How can it qualify as a rock plant?

Nevertheless I did (mostly) as I was told and placed an oddly shaped rock to keep it company this winter. It seems unfazed by the recent frosts, I suppose the ground is still warm-isa. Although never unhappy with its location, this Monardella did not increase in size dramatically in one season, but even on the smaller side it is a good specimen plant.
