fall hosta

November 2015

Before last night this hosta had no doubt the best fall color in this very young garden, it is in fact one of the first plants I put in about three years  ago and did not relocate, kill or donate.  I love hostas , once upon a time I never met a hosta I didn’t like. Then came the snails, the holocaust and the decision to let go of the plants most affected by slime and vegetarianism. This hosta (Francee?) resists their charms and so it stayed put. Nothing it can do about the cold however but flop gracefully and die…back.

Hostas that fair much better against snails in my garden are:

Sum and Substance, Blue Umbrella, Great Expectation and Abiqua Drinking Gourd. the thicker the leaves the prettier they stay.
